Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 23) — The Southern Police District (SPD) has identified one of the suspects in the killing of a tourist from New Zealand in Makati City.
In a press briefing Thursday, the SPD tagged John Mar Manalo as the one who shot 34-year-old tourist Nicholas Stacey last Feb. 19.
Stacey and his Filipino partner, Pamela Villanoza, were walking along Filmore Street in Brgy. Palanan when two men on a motorcycle held them up at gunpoint. Stacey was gunned down after he tried to grab the suspect’s firearm.
The perpetrators were able to take away Villanoza’s phone and wallet.
The SPD said Manalo has a standing warrant of arrest for robbery with violence issued by a court in Malolos, Bulacan.
Authorities have offered a ₱500,000 reward for anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of Manalo, who will face robbery with homicide charges.
The New Zealand government has warned its citizens in the Philippines to “exercise increased caution” following Stacey’s killing.
