Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 14) — Dating requires good social skills, and according to certified matchmaker Vanessa “Coach Vee” Antonio, confidence is a trait that most people who are dating are looking for.
Antonio told CNN Philippines Newsroom Ngayon that it is important how one presents oneself when dating, but it is also important to be genuine to achieve a happy and healthy relationship.
“The first impression counts, so having social skills is a way for you to effectively communicate your interest and how you present yourself,” Antonio said.
“Pero dapat tinitingnan din yung level of similarity niyo like shared interests and the directions you wanted to go,” Antonio added.
[Translation: But you have to look at your level of similarity like shared interests and the directions you wanted to go.]
When dating, Antonio also reminded that attraction should not be the basis of a romantic relationship since couples who have more similarities tend to last longer than those who are in an “opposites attract” kind of relationship.
“The goal is to improve yourself everyday para [so that] you’re not faking it. It’s still you but improving,” Antonio said. “One must be genuine to achieve a happy and healthy relationship.”
She added that one must go on at least three dates to be able to see someone’s personality.
Antonio also urged the public to utilize dating apps since there are “a lot of people you won’t be able to meet in person.”
However, Antonio stressed that the way to connect with people is through meeting them in person, not through the app.
