DILG chief offers ₱500,000 reward for arrest of Pangasinan barangay exec’s killers

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 9) — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Ablaos on Saturday offered a ₱500,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the murderers of a barangay captain in Pangasinan.

Barangay Poblacion Captain Melinda “Tonet” Morillo was fatally shot while she was driving home on Dec. 7. Authorities have yet to identify the gunmen. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=919573686204743&set=pb.100044563590623.-2207520000

Abalos, who visited Morillo’s wake, urged the public to offer support to the bereaved family and reveal information on the suspects.

“I am, therefore, offering a ₱500,000 reward for any information that will lead to the immediate arrest of the persons behind her murder,” Abalos said in a statement.

He said the reward is meant to encourage Pangasinenses to “step forward and be instruments of justice.”

“Your support is also a clear stand and statement against criminals that we will never condone these senseless killings in our country,” the secretary said.

“While this is an isolated incident, I remind other punong barangays and our local officials to promptly report to the local police any concerns regarding their safety,” Abalos added.
