Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 3) – The remains of another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) killed in the all-out war between Israel and Hamas were repatriated on Friday.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) identified the OFW as Angelyn Aguirre, a 32-year-old caretaker from Pangasinan, who had been working in Israel for six years.
Aguirre’s bereaved husband and family members were in tears when they received her remains at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, paid tribute to the Filipina for her heroism.
Aguirre, in the midst of the fighting, refused to abandon her elderly employer in Kibbutz Kfar Aza even though she could have fled. Both were killed by Hamas as they tried to hide in a bomb shelter.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Aguirre’s death on Oct. 11.
She is the second Filipino casualty in Israel to be repatriated.
On Oct. 21, the remains of a 49-year-old Filipina caregiver arrived in the Philippines, the first of four casualties to be brought home since the war broke out on Oct. 7.
