
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 23) — Another magnitude 5 earthquake struck Glan municipality in Sarangani before Thursday noon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) reported.
State seismologists said it was an aftershock of the 6.8-magnitude quake that hit Davao Occidental last Nov. 17.
The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
Reported intensity II was felt in General Santos City.
Phivolcs said there was also instrumental intensity III in Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, Glan, Maasim, Sarangani; T’boli, South Cotabato; and General Santos City.
Instrumental intensity II was felt in Matanao, Davao del Sur; Alabel, Sarangani; Polomolok, South Cotabato, as well as instrumental intensity I in Maitum, Malungon, Sarangani; Lake Sebu, Tupi, South Cotabato; and Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.
Philvolcs said aftershocks and damage are not expected.
The reported death toll in the quake that struck Mindanao has climbed to nine with 30 injured, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. At least 8,903 families or 41,818 individuals have been affected while 252 infrastructures and 4,623 houses have been damaged, NDRRMC added.
