Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 17) — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will intensify security measures following the fatal and brazen shooting of two passengers inside a bus bound for Manila in Nueva Ecija on Wednesday.
In a statement Thursday, the DOTr said an immediate security audit has been recommended to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to ensure safety of commuters in the upcoming Christmas holiday rush.

Part of the security measures include installation surveillance cameras inside terminals and even on buses to monitor passenger movement.
The agency also plans to require the use of GPS and an alarm or emergency connectivity of buses to terminals and the bus companies’ offices for quick response, and to prevent similar incidents.
“PUBs (public utility buses) must be a safe haven for passengers who just want to travel from one city, province or region to another,” the DOTr said.
The agency added that the proposed measures may be required during renewals of franchises of bus companies.
