Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 7) — The Philippines and Canada vowed to bolster bilateral defense cooperation, emphasizing the broadening scale of interoperability between the Philippine Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy.
During a courtesy call on the Department of National Defense (DND), Canadian envoy to the Philippines H.E. David Bruce Hartman said his country is committed to “supporting the rules-based order of the Indo-Pacific region.”
“Both sides expressed their strong and resolute commitment to enhancing Philippines-Canada bilateral defense relations with the purpose of maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region,” a statement from DND said.
Hartman earlier told CNN Philippines that Manila and Ottawa are finalizing a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation.
He said Canada is also pushing for coast guard-to-coast guard cooperation with the Philippines.
