Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 30) — Voting resumed Monday afternoon in two polling precincts in Palawan after a politician’s supporters caused a disturbance, prompting the Commission on Elections to suspend activities for several hours.
A police report stated that before 11 a.m., a commotion broke out among the supporters of a candidate inside Pilot Elementary School in Barangay Kalipay, Puerto Princesa City. Authorities found out that 346 unused official ballot forms inside the two polling precincts were forcibly taken and destroyed.
Police said they arrested Abdul Bait Bongaros, a 35-year-old male resident of Barangay Princesa.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said poll officers were to list down the names of voters and they were asked to return after the 3 p.m. deadline to use extra ballots from neighboring precincts.
Authorities said they deployed more personnel to the polling center.
