
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) — CNN Philippines has received the 2023 SKAL International Tourism Award for Media in recognition of its contributions to the country’s travel and tourism industry.
Joe Carlos, the network’s assistant vice president for News, accepted the award during the ceremony on Thursday at the SMX Aura Convention Center.
The award highlighted CNN Philippines’ strong emphasis on preserving Filipino values and culture in its coverage of Philippine tourism.
It also cited the network’s commitment to top-tier journalism and accessibility through multiple platforms.
Fourteen awardees were recognized, including First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos as Patroness of Arts, Heritage, and Culture; Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco for good tourism governance; and tycoon Manny Pangilinan for sports tourism.
Frasco said during her remarks that the Philippines is well on its way to becoming a tourism powerhouse in Asia, noting that around 4.3 million visitors have arrived in the country from January to September this year.
She added that the Philippines has recently joined the United Nations World Tourism Organization General Assembly as Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific.
SKAL International is a worldwide association of travel and tourism professionals promoting global tourism and friendship. Founded in 1932 in Paris, France, the organization has thousands of members from 306 tourism clubs throughout 76 nations.
