QCPD files raps vs suspects in criminology student’s hazing death

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 19) — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has filed charges against five suspects in the hazing death of a senior Criminology student in Manila.

In a statement released Thursday, authorities said the five suspects currently in custody were charged with violation of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

A total of 16 members of the Tau Gamma Phi (Treskilon) Fraternity are suspected of being involved in the brutal death of Ahldryn Leary Bravante of the Philippine College of Criminology.

The suspects with the QCPD include two who were arrested after the death of Bravante and the other three who willingly surrendered to authorities.

“A manhunt operation is being conducted for the possible identification and arrest of the other suspects,” the statement said.

Authorities said the suspects have also given their confessions through their legal counsel. Names and addresses of other suspects from the frat have also been revealed to the police.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri called on authorities to swiftly prosecute the suspects, emphasizing that they should “spend the rest of their lives behind bars.”

According to authorities, the suspects are also facing robbery charges after the investigation found that the victim was missing some of his belongings.

Police said the sixth suspect involved in the hazing surrendered Thursday afternoon.
