Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 18) — Actress-TV host Alex Gonzaga apologized on Wednesday following backlash against her behavior during her recent birthday party celebration.
“On my birthday, God taught me a hard and important lesson. Humility, kindness and better judgment. I am truly sorry, Kuya Allan,” Gonzaga wrote on Twitter, referring to the waiter she smeared icing on as seen in a viral clip.
The now-deleted video posted by content creator Dani Barretto showed the 35-year-old Gonzaga blowing her birthday candle, before suddenly smearing chocolate icing on the face of the server holding the cake. The guests can be heard cheering in the background.
The scene drew flak from netizens and even names in the entertainment industry — who called for better treatment for service workers in the country.
The actress also apologized to her family for causing them “pain and embarrassment.”
“I will rise from this a wiser and better person,” she said.
