Metro Manila, Philippines – Talent manager and showbiz personality Ogie Diaz gave his daughter Erin ₱1 million for her 25th birthday, fulfilling a promise he made to his children if they reached the milestone without getting married or having a child.
The surprise was captured in Erin’s birthday vlog, where Ogie presented her with the ₱1-million gift during a family celebration. Erin became emotional after receiving it.
Ogie explained that he wanted his children to enjoy their youth before taking on the responsibilities of marriage and raising a family.
“Gusto ko i-enjoy nila yung kanilang kabataan. Mahirap pag nag-asawa, nakipag-live in, ang anak tapos biglang, ‘Mama, iiwan mo yung anak mo sa amin,’ tapos maggigimik-gimik ka. Mas maganda i-enjoy mo,” Ogie said.
[Translation: I want them to enjoy their youth. It can be difficult when you get married or live with a partner, have a child, and then end up leaving the child with us so you can still go out. It’s better to enjoy your youth first.]
The money will not simply be for spending. Ogie said Erin plans to use it as capital for a business.
“Hindi kasi magnenegosyo siya kaya yan ang gagamitin,” he said, as Erin mentioned plans involving coffee.
[Translation: She’s going into business, so that’s what she will use it for.]
Ogie said he wants his daughter to recognize that the money is now hers to manage responsibly.
“Alam niya na pera niya yan at kailangan niyang alagaan. Oo. At palaguin,” he said.
[Translation: She knows that the money is hers and that she needs to take care of it and make it grow.]
