Will Ashley, Gina Pareño films to debut at Moscow festival

Metro Manila, Philippines – Two Filipino films starring actor Will Ashley and veteran actress Gina Pareño will have world premieres at the Moscow International Film Festival this month, marking another milestone for Philippine cinema on the global stage.

Director Adolfo Alix Jr. said his films “PILA (Queue)” and “POON (The Hallowed)” will premiere during the festival’s 48th edition, scheduled from April 16 to 23 in Russia’s capital.

“Honored that two of my films, PILA (Queue) and POON (The Hallowed), will be having their World Premieres at the 48th Moscow International Film Festival this April 16 to 23. To God be the glory for this wonderful blessing!” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The Moscow International Film Festival, one of the world’s oldest film festivals established in 1935, is considered a key platform for international filmmakers seeking to reach European and global audiences. It showcases a diverse lineup of films across genres, often highlighting emerging voices alongside established directors.

Alix, known for his prolific work in independent cinema and socially driven narratives, has previously gained recognition in international festivals.  His film,“That Boy in the Dark,” won Best Director honors at international competitions, including festivals in the United States and Europe.

His earlier works have also screened at major festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, further cementing his reputation as a filmmaker with international reach.
