Metro Manila, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas Women settled for silver after bowing to Australia, 18-9, in the finals of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup on Sunday, April 5, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The Philippines could not replicate the stunner it pulled off against Japan in the semifinals, falling behind early against the taller Australians, 0-6, which was too big of a hole to get out of.
A pair of buckets from Kacey dela Rosa and Afril Bernardino kept the Philippines within striking distance, 12-7, but it was the closest they got as Australia proved to be the mightier side.
Bernardo finished with four points, while Dela Rosa and Cheska Apag had three points and two points, respectively.
The Gilas women team made history after becoming the first Filipino squad to take home a medal in the FIBA 3×3 tournament, an improvement from its fourth place finish last year.
Amy Atwell led Australia, which claimed its sixth title in the competition, with eight markers and seven boards.
