Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino singer Matty Juniosa wowed the United Kingdom with his powerful vocals and superstar skills, earning a golden buzzer at Britain’s Got Talent.
Juniosa sang a rendition of the classic Prince hit “Purple Rain” — a performance well received by the audience and, ultimately, show judge Simon Cowell, who pressed the golden buzzer.
His audition before the BGT judges aired early Sunday morning, March 29 (PH time).
In his BGT introduction, the 27-year-old singer said he has been living in Glasgow for three years and was working as a part-time waiter.
“I have been waiting for this chance to finally put an end to this long thing that I have been thinking about myself, that I will always be a singing competition loser,” he said.
Juniosa was a finalist on “Idol Philippines” Season 1 in 2019.
After the debut season, he became part of iDolls together with fellow Idol Philippines alums Enzo Almario and Lucas Garcia. The singing trio disbanded after three years.
“My dream is to sing for this amount of people and to sing every day and to make music and to conquer the world,” he said.
In an Instagram post, Juniosa said he was in disbelief that he got the opportunity to perform and compete in the 19th edition of BGT.
Aside from his vocal range, both the audience and the judges were captivated by his personality and charm.
“I love this audition and I could have given him 2 Golden Buzzers,” Cowell wrote on Instagram.
With the golden buzzer, Juniosa advances directly to the live shows.
