Metro Manila, Philippines – The Filipinas booked a spot in next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup after dominating Uzbekistan, 2-0, in their 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup play-in match held at the Robina Stadium in Australia on Thursday, March 19.
Angie Beard scored in the 47th minute off an assist from Jael Guy after two attempts in the first half, while Jaclyn Sawicki followed up with another goal in the 52nd minute to give the Philippines the commanding lead en route to the victory.
This marks the second straight World Cup appearance for the Filipinas following their historic debut in 2023. The Philippines joins Japan, Australia, China, Chinese-Taipei, and South Korea in the Women’s World Cup.
The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will run from June 24 to July 25 in Brazil.
