Metro Manila, Philippines – A joint effort between the Philippines and Singapore allowed the safe return of 24 distressed Filipino Workers stranded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as air travel remained largely restricted in the Middle East.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah coordinated with the Singapore Consulate General to arrange a Singapore-organized repatriation flight.
The workers left King Abdulaziz International Airport at 4 p.m. on March 12 and arrived in Singapore at 6 a.m. on March 13, where the Philippine embassy assisted them with onward travel to the Philippines.
The DFA expressed its appreciation to the Singapore government, and called it a “benevolent act” that exemplifies the ASEAN spirit of solidarity.
The Migrant Workers Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Jeddah also provided financial support and coordinated flights.
