Metro Manila, Philippines – Malacañang denied circulating reports that former presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda is set to replace Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda.
“Not true,” Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a text message to reporters.
The rumored leadership change came shortly after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. removed former Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco from her post and appointed her as presidential adviser for sustainable and resilient communities.
Frasco’s new role will focus on strengthening the implementation of national initiatives at the community level, particularly in areas affected by climate-related hazards and disruptions to local economies and livelihoods.
Malacañang said the appointment aims to ensure stronger coordination and follow-through of priority government programs at the local level.
Frasco will transition from her role at the Department of Tourism, where she led efforts to support tourism enterprises, promote destinations, and coordinate with local governments nationwide. Tourism Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso will temporarily serve as officer in charge.
In January, Frasco thanked the president for his trust despite online criticisms and speculation about her Cabinet position. “I’m very grateful to our president as well as to the national government for supporting tourism in the Philippines,” she said, adding that she has no plans to run for any national position.
Malacañang expressed confidence that Frasco’s experience working with local governments and communities will continue to support the administration’s development priorities.
