With a few more weeks of Lent to go, it’s only going to get harder for meat-lovers practicing abstinence and fasting. But just because you’re avoiding meat doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite comfort foods. Fortunately, some of our favorite burger joints have meat-free and seafood options that make it easier to stick to Lenten traditions without feeling like you’re missing out:
- McDonald’s’ Ebi Burger
A regular menu item in McDonald’s Japan, the Ebi Burger becomes a seasonal special in local Philippine stores, bringing a familiar Japan favorite to local branches. Alongside the Filet-O-Fish, McDonald’s PH has brought back the Ebi Burger right in time for Lent, this time with a special “cheese dunk” for extra flavor. - Greenlight Burgers’ Fish Burger
This trendy new BGC burger spot has people lining up early for its smash burgers, and once the burgers are gone, the shop closes for the day. For Lent, Greenlight Burgers by Alvin Cailan has a special Fish Burger made with black cod and paired with house-made caviar tartar sauce. - Shake Shack’s ‘Shroom Burger
This isn’t necessarily a Lent-only special since it’s available year-round, but it still fits the season. Shake Shack’s breaded Portobello patty, filled with melty cheese and finished with a crisp bite, is an easy meat-free option. - Wendy’s Shrimp Sandwich
If McDonald’s isn’t your thing, fellow fast food stalwart Wendy’s also has their own version of a shrimp sandwich, with a crispy shrimp patty paired with a tangy tartar sauce. - 8Cuts’ Shrimp ‘Wich
If it’s an elevated shrimp sandwich you’re after, check out 8Cuts’ Shrimp ‘Wich, which is also back on the menu for the Lenten season. Unlike its fast food counterparts, this one has a bit more kick thanks to the pickled jalapeños and a jalapeño ranch sauce.
These fast-food and casual burger spots make it simple to enjoy the Lenten season with flavorful and fun offerings all while keeping it meat-free. Which of these do you wish would stay on the menu year-round?
