No real grounds for impeachment against me – Marcos

Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said there were “no real grounds” for the impeachment complaints filed against him, calling the cases political in nature and a distraction from government work.

Speaking to reporters in Manila on Friday, Feb.6, Marcos welcomed the development, saying he was not surprised by the outcome.

“I’m glad of course that the impeachment complaints against me are finished,” Marcos said.

“These things are distractions from the things we are doing.”

He added that he was never overly concerned about the complaints. “I wasn’t very worried because I saw the impeachment complaints. There were no real grounds for the impeachment. It was a political complaint,” he said.

Earlier this week, the House committee on justice found the impeachment complaints against Marcos lacking in substance, effectively dismissing the cases subject to approval by the House plenary.

Malacañang welcomed the move, saying the president wants the country to move forward and remain focused on governance.
