Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday, Feb. 1, said he is recovering from diverticulitis, acknowledging he appears to have lost weight.
In a vlog, Marcos said his doctors’ assessment is “good” and “nothing serious,” and he just needs to regain his strength after his bout with diverticulitis, an inflammation of abnormal pouches that can develop in the colon.
“Namayat na nga ako at sabaw lang pinabinibigay sa akin ng ilang araw. Mabuti na ‘yan at para akong nag-diyeta,” he said.
[Translation: I lost weight because I only ate soup for a couple of days, which is fine because it’s like going on a diet.]
Marcos was hospitalized Jan. 21 for observation and returned to the presidential complex but skipped events, making his first public appearance Jan. 29.
Both Malacañang and St. Luke’s Medical Center denied an alleged medical document circulating online, calling it fabricated, malicious, and a violation of privacy.
Marcos, 68, is already in the middle of his six-year term. He is facing impeachment complaints before the House of Representatives.
The House Committee on Justice plans to take up the complaints Monday, Feb. 2.
