Metro Manila, Philippines – Kean Baclaan has bid goodbye to the De La Salle University, ending a one-year stint that saw him help the school capture the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball title.
The 5-foot-7 guard, who has still one playing year left in the UAAP, made the announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
“My two years in La Salle were more than worth it because they changed my life. I learned so much during my time here, not only about basketball but also about life itself,” he said.
“I am extremely thankful to the people around me who guided me throughout my college journey,” he added.
Baclaan began his UAAP seniors campaign with National University (NU) where he spent two seasons before transferring to La Salle.
Baclaan had an up and down campaign with La Salle in Season 88, averaging 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. His stint was spoiled by a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury which he suffered against University of the East in the elimination round.
Baclaan made a timely return in the Final Four, where he played a key role in eliminating his former school, NU, to help La Salle book a return trip to the finals.
La Salle eventually dethroned University of the Philippines in the finals to reclaim the crown.
Baclaan has yet to disclose his next destination in his basketball career.
“As of now, there is still no final decision on which team I will be joining, but wherever I go, I will always carry the Lasallian spirit with me. ANIMO!” he said.
With Baclaan’s exit, point guard duties in La Salle will now be handled by Jacob Cortez and his brother Mikey, and Doy Dungo.
