Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday, Jan. 16, said the fate of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) will depend on whether the panel still has work to complete as it winds down its task.
In an ambush interview on Friday, Jan. 16, Marcos said no decision has been made yet on what will happen to the commission.
“But they really are coming toward the end. Lahat ng kailangan imbestigahan na imbestigahan na nila [All that they need to investigate have been investigated]. Maybe there are one or two loose ends that they have to pick up,” Marcos said.
He added that once the ICI finishes its investigations and submits all information to the Department of Justice and the ombudsman, the focus of the probe will shift to these agencies.
Asked if he will appoint new commissioners, Marcos said it depends: “Pag-kailangan pa then we will [If we still need to, we will].”
The ICI was established in September 2025 initially composed of three commissioners that probed anomalous infrastructure projects.
The three commissioners were Rossana Fajardo, Rogelio Singson, and former Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr., with Rodolfo Azurin Jr. designated as special adviser.
Fajardo and Singson resigned three months later. The ICI said it is unable to resume operations following their resignation.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said in December that the body may have just one to two months to go to wrap up its probe and submit other recommendations.
