Metro Manila, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct a special manual election in the 2nd District of Antipolo City in Rizal to fill in the vacancy left by the late Rep. Romeo Acop in December.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said on Wednesday, Jan. 14, that the election has been set for March 14, a Saturday, for around 300,000 voters.
Acop, 78, a retired police officer and forayed into a stint in Congress for over a decade, died on Dec. 20 while recovering from a kidney transplant.
Acop was a member of the National Unity Party and the first to call out the name “Mary Grace Piattos,” the combination of a restaurant and a potato chip brand, which was found on acknowledgement receipts on Vice President Sara Duterte’s confidential funds.
