Metro Manila, Philippines – Pido Jarencio will still be calling the shots for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) after being given a two-year extension as the Growling Tigers head coach.
According to The Varsitarian, the school’s official student publication, Jarencio will continue what he already established in España as San Miguel Corporation will carry on its role as the team’s main backer until Season 90 or in 2027.
Jarencio steered UST to back-to-back Final Four appearances in the UAAP Seasons 87 and 88 headlined by Nic Cabanero and Forthsky Padrigao. The Growling Tigers fell to the University of the Philippines in the semifinals both times.
Jarencio, who guided UST to its last UAAP title in 2006, has compiled a 16-25 win-loss record since his coaching return in 2023.
Following Cabanero and Padrigao’s exit, the Growling Tigers will be bannered by a promising core which consists of reigning Rookie of the Year Collins Akowe, Gelo Crisostomo, Amiel Acido, Mark Llemit as well as Kurt Laput, Kristian Porter, Michael Mara, and Mur Alao.
