Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is closely monitoring the situation of Filipinos in Iran as protests spread across the country, but it reported no Filipinos have been affected so far.
The DFA added the Philippine Embassy in Tehran is tracking developments amid widening demonstrations sparked by Iran’s worsening economic conditions.
About 800 Filipinos are estimated to be living and working in Iran, according to the DFA.
“There are no Filipinos reported to be affected,” the department said in a statement, adding that embassy officials remain in close contact with members of the Filipino community.
The DFA advised Filipinos in Iran to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly to crowded areas, as authorities and protesters clash in multiple parts of the country.
Filipinos needing assistance were urged to contact the Philippine Embassy in Tehran through email at tehran.pe@dfa.gov.ph or via its emergency mobile, WhatsApp or Viber number at +989122136801.
The advisory comes as protests that began in Iran’s cities over economic hardship have spread to rural provinces, with at least seven people reported killed among security forces and demonstrators, according to Iranian authorities.
The unrest marks the most significant demonstrations in Iran since 2022, when the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody ignited nationwide protests. While demonstrations in Tehran have slowed in recent days, they have expanded into other regions, raising concerns about a potential escalation in the government’s response.
