Metro Manila, Philippines – Electricity distribution company Meralco ignited the Christmas spirit through its “Maliwanag ang Pasko,” its lighting initiative to spread joy, hope, and togetherness throughout the holiday season. This year, the company lit up three key locations to provide an avenue where families and friends can relive Filipino Christmas traditions.
“Our Liwanag Park stands as a simple gift to the public. A place where anyone can feel Christmas with their loved ones, and a reminder that light is meant to be shared and part of Meralco’s job is giving light to our people,” Meralco Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Manuel V. Pangilinan said.
With the theme, “A Brighter Christmas for All,” Meralco puts the spotlight on making the season’s warmth and positivity accessible to every Filipino.
To kick off the festivities, Meralco held ceremonial lighting ceremonies in Intramuros, Manila and Pasig City. In addition, Meralco – through One Meralco Foundation (OMF) – also lit up the façade and church grounds of the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian in Lipa, Batangas.
Liwanag Park at Meralco Operating Center
Located along Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City, the Liwanag Park at Meralco Operating Center is a headturner this holiday season. This year, the facade of the iconic Lopez Building comes alive with a 3D mapping light design via the state-of-the-art Panasonic Projector.
The Liwanag Park also features installations and displays that depict the past, the present, and the future. The vintage parks and houses serve as a throwback to the classic Christmas sceneries many of us grew up with. Meanwhile, the light tunnels that resemble transmission tunnels; and the Christmas trees that are lit by pedaling an e-bike bring us to the present-day. Finally, the garden of lights with a walkway path that lights up when stepped on takes us to the future.
The park also has other installations and interactive displays. At the core of this attraction is sustainability, with displays made from repurposed materials—LED lights encased in used meter covers, and a giant belen display made of copper wires. There is also a tranvia ride, a favorite among children and the young-at-heart. After sightseeing and taking photos, visitors can also shop at the tiangge and dine at the food bazaar.
Get mesmerized by the lights at Liwanag Park at Meralco Operating Center on Dec. 1 – 23, 6 pm – 10 pm; and on Dec. 24 – 31, 6 pm – 12 mn.
Liwanag Park at Plaza Roma, Intramuros
Old Manila grandeur and dazzling lights are a perfect combination in spreading holiday cheer at the Meralco Liwanag Park in Plaza Roma, Intramuros. A joint initiative of OMF and the Intramuros Foundation, the park has been attracting families, tourists, and heritage enthusiasts since its ceremonial switch-on last Nov. 26.
The seasonal attraction features sustainable and energy-efficient installations. These include a 20-foot Christmas tree made of recycled meter covers and steel crossarms, illuminated by LED bulbs; and a Meralco tranvia replica made from recycled wooden boards, symbolizing the company’s historic roots and its connection to Intramuros’ heritage.
Hop on in the fun at the Meralco Liwanag Park in Plaza Roma, Intramuros, Manila, which is running until Jan. 4, 2026, 6 pm to 11 pm.
Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian in Lipa City, Batangas
OMF also partnered with the Archdiocese of Lipa to spread light and holiday cheer in Batangas. OMF helped illuminate the church grounds with solar streetlamps for parishes across the archdiocese as part of its community electrification program.
The Foundation turned over solar light donations during the Christmas lighting ceremony of the façade of the historic Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian in Lipa City and gave away noche buena packages to indigent families across the province through the parish beneficiaries.
Through these festive Christmas attractions, Meralco aims to expand access to energy, enhance productivity, and improve community safety, particularly in underserved areas; while highlighting that everyone should be included in the lights that bring infectious joys and create lasting memories this holiday season.
