Nicolas Torre named new MMDA GM

Metro Manila, Philippines –  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre III as the new general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Malacañang confirmed Friday, Dec.19.

Torre replaces Procopio Lipana as head of the agency tasked with managing traffic, flood control, and public safety in Metro Manila.

The appointment comes months after Torre’s brief stint as PNP chief. He was named to lead the national police force in May but his tenure was cut short following issues tied to a controversial police reshuffling.

Malacañang earlier said Torre respected the president’s decision and that the transition at the PNP was orderly. Officials also stressed that his reassignment does not reflect internal divisions within the administration.
