Metro Manila, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas overcame a slow start to beat a gritty Vietnam side, 78-67, in the men’s 5-on-5 basketball tournament to clinch a semifinals spot on Monday, Dec. 15, in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Philippines made a comeback from a 14-point deficit in the first half, relying on the outside shots of Robert Bolick.
Poy Erram had a team-high 15 points, while Matthew Wright added 14 points for Gilas.
The Philippines swept the group phase with a 2-0 win-loss slate as the national team also defeated Malaysia, 83-58, on Sunday.
Gilas is two victories away from a title repeat in the biennial meet.
