Metro Manila, Philippines – Elreen Ando bagged the Philippines’ first weightlifting gold medal in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Monday, Dec. 15, in Thailand.
The 27-year-old Ando topped the women’s 63 kg. category, lifting a total of 229 kg.
This is her second SEA Games gold after ruling the 59 kg. event in the previous edition held in Cambodia.
Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Tien Nguyen settled for silver with a total of 219 kg. while hometown bet Thanaporn Saetia nabbed bronze after lifting a total of 218 kg.
Ando’s triumph came a day after Albert Ian Delos Santos snagged the silver in the men’s 71 kg. division.
The Philippines now has 18 gold medals in the ongoing biennial meet.
