Metro Manila, Philippines – The Philippines added two gold medals in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games courtesy of jiu-jitsu on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Kimberly Custodio ruled the women’s ne-waza 48kg division, while Dean Roxas topped the men’s ne-waza 85kg category.
Custodio defeated her Thai opponent in the final, while Roxas dominated his Singaporean foe in their clash.
Earlier, mixed martial artist Geli Bulaong secured a gold in the women’s modern -60kg event after defeating her Indonesian opponent in the finals of the demo sport, which means her medal will not be counted in the official SEA Games medal tally.
The Philippines now has four gold medals following the victories of taekwondo jin Justin Kobe Macario in poomsae and the swimming team in the 4x100m women’s freestyle relay on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
