Heavy rains expected even as ‘Wilma’ weakens to LPA

Metro Manila, Philippines – Tropical Depression Wilma weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) on Sunday morning, Dec. 7, but it would still bring heavy rains, along with another weather system.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, weather bureau PAGASA said Oriental Mindoro and Romblon may experience moderate to heavy rains due to the LPA.

Meanwhile, a shear line will bring heavy to intense rains over Quezon.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Isabela, Aurora, Laguna, Batangas, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Albay.

PAGASA lifted wind signals but said the northeast monsoon, or amihan, blowing strong to gale-force gusts in most of Luzon, Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

The LPA will cross southern Luzon and Visayas until Monday. PAGASA says re-development into a tropical depression is not ruled out.
