Metro Manila, Philippines – Undersecretary Jose “Jojo” Cadiz Jr. has resigned from the Department of Justice (DOJ) amid alleged ties to anomalous flood control projects.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Friday, Dec. 5, confirmed that Cadiz has submitted his resignation but has no update if it has been accepted.
“Sa aking pagkakaalam siya po ay nagsubmit na ng kanyang resignation (From what I know he already submitted his resignation),” Castro said.
Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon said Cadiz has been “continuously reporting” to work at the department.
“Whatever application for resignation was submitted, [it was] directly to the appointing authority which is the Office of the President. It was not coursed through the Secretary of Justice,” Fadullon said.
He added that the department is waiting for any formal complaints that will be filed against Cadiz before initiating any investigation.
Cadiz was dragged into the corruption kickback scheme after ex-Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co alleged that the executive received cash on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Asked if Malacañang could confirm if Cadiz is Marcos’ associate or aide, Castro said she could not confirm this.
Marcos has repeatedly denied Co’s accusations and urged the ex-lawmaker to return to the country and face charges linked to the flood control mess.
