Metro Manila, Philippines – House Majority Leader and presidential son Sandro Marcos discussed the allegations of fugitive ex-lawmaker Zaldy Co in a voluntary appearance behind closed doors at the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Thursday, Dec. 4.
“He would like to share as much information as he can as candidly as possible and more importantly, there may be critical information that may be elicited from his testimony which may jeopardize or compromise further investigation of this commission,” said Michelle Lazaro, Marcos’ counsel.
In a chance interview after the inquiry, the neophyte Ilocos Norte 1st district representative said he had nothing to hide and was ready to assist the ICI.
He branded Co’s allegations that he had P50 billion in budget insertions for the last three years as a destabilization attempt.
“It’s a move that reeks of desperation. It’s a political ploy,” said Marcos.
He said Co’s accusations against him and his father, President Bongbong Marcos were impossible.
The former House appropriations chairman earlier tagged the chief executive for supposedly ordering P100 billion in insertions in the current budget.
“First of all, the executive has nothing to do with the legislative. Secondly, the allegations are untrue. I did not do any such thing,” said Marcos.
The ICI had asked Co to come home and testify under oath.
The former lawmaker remains at large for his graft and malversation charges with the Sandiganbayan over a substandard road dike in Oriental Mindoro, contracted by Sunwest Inc., of which he is said to be a beneficial owner.
