Metro Manila, Philippines – Party-list lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc have asked the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to include President Ferdinand Marcos and two members of his family in the investigation on alleged anomalies in public works funds and questionable budget insertions.
ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Sarah Jane Elago and KABATAAN Rep. Renee Louise Co filed the pleading at the ICI headquarters on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
The Makabayan bloc’s recommendation was based on the taped video statements of ex-AKO BICOL Rep. Zaldy Co who dragged Marcos and his son, Sandro, who is also a House member, into the controversy.
Also named in the plea was the president’s cousin, Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.
The filing also included the following former Cabinet members and government officials:
· Rep. Co
· Former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan
· Former Public Works Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo
· Former Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman
· Former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin
· Former Presidential Legislative Liaison Office Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin
· Former DPWH Bulacan 1st District Engineer Henry Alcantara
· Former Education Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar
· Justice Undersecretary Jose Cadiz, Jr.
The lawmakers also sought the livestreaming of ICI proceedings and the lifting of “all restrictive guidelines that impede public and media access to information.”
