‘I am not entering politics’ — SMC’s Ramon Ang

Metro Manila, Philippines – San Miguel Corporation CEO Ramon Ang said he is not entering politics in response to a circulating online report.

The blind item stated that Ang’s name was floated in business circles as a potential “stabilizing force” as the country grapples with political issues amid high stakes corruption that has slowed down the economy.

“I am not entering into politics,” Ang said in a statement released on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Ang said he intends to remain focused on business, building projects, and supporting government initiatives and community programs, where he believes he can contribute most effectively.

“Our country is facing many challenges, and it is understandable that people want things resolved quickly. But moving forward will never depend on one individual. It will take the government, private sector, and the public all moving in the same direction,” he said.

Ang said he is focusing on efforts to help build the country as a “dependable partner” for the nation.
