Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday administered the oath of office to Charlito Martin “Charlie” Mendoza as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, replacing Romeo Lumagui Jr.
Mendoza, a lawyer and licensed geodetic engineer, was former undersecretary of the Revenue Operations Group at the Department of Finance, which oversees the operations of the BIR and Bureau of Customs to help meet revenue targets.
He also led the Bureau of Customs’ Port of Cebu from 2019 to 2022, where he oversaw record revenue collections, milestones in border protection, and ISO certification for the main port and subports.
Mendoza earned his law degree from San Beda University, placing third in the 2004 Bar Exam, and also holds a degree in geodetic engineering from the University of the Philippines.
Malacanang has yet to issue a statement on the reason for Lumagui’s exit.
