
Metro Manila, Philippines – The constitutional body that recommends judicial appointees to the president has submitted to Malacañang the names of seven people for Ombudsman on Monday, Oct. 6.
In a letter, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) shortlist to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. named the following:
+ former Commission on Audit Chairman Michael Aguinaldo
+ retired Court of Appeals Justice Stephen Cruz
+ Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan
+ Office of the President executive secretary for legal affairs Anna Liza Logan
+ retired Supreme Court Justice Mario Lopez
+ Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Michael Frederick Musngi
+ Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla
The presidential appointee will replace Samuel Martires who retired on July 27. The new Ombudsman will serve a non-renewable, seven-year term of office, or until 2032.
Seventeen lawyers applied for the position. They were interviewed on Aug. 28 to 29 and Sept. 1 to 2.
Remulla was in the shortlist despite a pending case on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
