Metro Manila, Philippines – The death toll for the three consecutive storms “Mirasol,” “Nando,” and “Opong” has reached 26, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Sunday, Sept. 28.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said four deaths have been confirmed while 22 are for validation.

The four fatalities were recorded in Cordillera Administrative Region related to Super Typhoon Nando.

On Saturday evening, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesperson Junie Castillo said Typhoon Opong killed 13 individuals: three in Masbate and 10 in Eastern Visayas Region.

The province of Masbate, where “Opong” made landfall twice, declared a state of calamity on Saturday.

The NDRRMC said the combined effects of “Mirasol,” “Nando,” and “Opong,” as well as the southwest monsoon or habagat, affected over 738,000 families or nearly 2.8 million people across the country.

Around 163,000 locals remain in evacuation centers.

Power interruptions were experienced in 73 areas, including 23 localities in Mimaropa, where “Opong” last hit before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The three tropical cyclones damaged P1-billion worth of agricultural output, affecting the livelihood of 36,000 farmers, mostly from Cagayan Valley.

The NDRRMC said the country incurred around P864 million worth of infrastructure damage. At least 8,900 houses have been damaged due to the three tropical cyclones.
