Metro Manila, Philippines – Marikina Rep. Marcy Teodoro is facing complaints over alleged acts of lasciviousness and rape by sexual assault, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Thursday, Sept. 25.
The office of DOJ spokesperson Mico Clavano said two of Teodoro’s previous female close-in security lodged the complaint-affidavits before the National Prosecution Service.
The spokesperson’s office said case buildup and legal evaluation will be underway to determine the sufficiency of evidence prior to preliminary investigation.
“This ensures that any action, if warranted, will rest on a complete and substantiated record,” the office said in a statement.
“The respondent will be afforded full due process, while the identities of the complainants are being withheld to safeguard their privacy and security,” it added.
The DOJ did not expound on the complaints.
Teodoro, meanwhile, denied the accusations, calling them malicious and politically motivated.
“May mga trumatrabahong pwersa. Mukhang orchestrated ang paglabas ng balita, at ang lumabas na kwento ay hindi kapanipaniwala,” he said in a statement.
