Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez made history on Thursday, Sept. 25 (Manila time) after being hailed as the grand champion of America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 20.
The nine-month pregnant singer belted Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “ Die with A Smile” for her final performance.
Sanchez secured the highest number of votes, besting rapper-contestant Chris Turner.
“I’m sorry. I’m really emotional. This is amazing. Thank you so much, America,” she said.
Sanchez took home the grand prize of $1 million or over P57 million.
Sanchez received a golden buzzer from the season 20 judge Sofia Vergara after performing Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” during the auditions.
During the AGT’s first season in 2006, the Fil-am pride competed in the American talent show, where she reached the semifinals.
