Comelec proclaims Gabriela party-list as winner in midterm elections

Metro Manila, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday, Sept. 17, proclaimed the Gabriela Women’s Party as winner of the 64th party-list seat in the midterm elections.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia and Commissioners Rey Bulay, Ernesto Maceda Jr., and Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal handed the certificate of proclamation to the party-list group at the Comelec main office in Manila.

Sarah Elago will represent Gabriela in the 20th Congress. She represented the Kabataan party-list in the 17th and 18th Congresses.

“Lahat ng kurakot, lagot sa Gabriela!” the organization said in a Facebook post

[Translation: All corrupt people will be in trouble with Gabriela.]

Gabriela is known to push for reforms that concern women, children, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
