
Metro Manila, Philippines – Alex Eala is expected to receive nearly ₱11 million in prize money after reaching the Miami Open quarterfinals.
According to the Women’s Tennis Association website, those who qualified to the quarterfinals are assured of getting $189,075 (roughly ₱10.9 million) and 215 points each.
Eala was supposed to battle Paula Badosa in the Round of 16 but the Spaniard withdrew from the match due to a lower back injury, giving the rising Filipino star the walkover victory and quarterfinals spot.
The 19-year-old Eala will face world No. 2 and five-time grand slam winner Iga Swiatek of Poland in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 26.
Should Eala win, she will receive $332,160 (₱19.1 million) and 390 points for advancing to the semifinals.
