Metro Manila, Philippines – The local distributor of automaker Honda has announced the recall of over 6,000 units to repair and replace faulty steering gearboxes and high pressure fuel pumps, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said in an advisory.
In a letter to the agency published on Thursday, Jan. 23, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) said it will conduct a recall campaign for over 5,500 units of the following models due to steering gearboxes:
+Civic 4D (2022-2024)
+CR-V (2024)
+Civic Type-R (2023-2025)
“Findings show that due to the decrease in grease amount in the worm gear, meshing area of the electric power steering gearbox during use, the sliding resistance in the meshing area increases and the torque fluctuation becomes larger while turning the steering wheel. This causes abnormal noise or sticky steering that makes the driver feel in danger,” said HCPI.
It said there have been no reported cases of crashes due to the matter.
The company said it will notify affected vehicle owners and post the frame numbers on its website www.hondaphil.com.
“This will be free of charge for the vehicle owners. For the repair of the steering gearbox, it will only take half hour (0.5hrs) while (for) the steering gearbox replacement, it will take approximately four hours (3.9hrs),” HCPI said.
Meanwhile, more than 1,350 units of CR-V (2024) are also subject for recall due to replacement of high-pressure fuel pumps.
“While there have been no reported cases of fuel leak related to the subject matter in the Philippines, HCPI with our thirty-eight authorized Honda dealers and three service centers nationwide will proceed with the leak testing of the high-pressure fuel pump. In case a gasoline leak is detected, the high-pressure fuel shall be replaced. This will be free of charge for the vehicle owners,” the company said.
