
Metro Manila, Philippines – A magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Northern Luzon on Monday, Dec. 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake’s epicenter was recorded west of Burgos, Ilocos Norte.
Phivolcs earlier reported the shock’s epicenter near Bangui at magnitude 5.8.
The agency said the earthquake, of tectonic origin, struck at 10:56 a.m.
Intensity 5, classified as “strong”, was reported in San Nicholas and Sarrat in Ilocos Norte, as well as in Sinait and Cabugao in Ilocos Sur.
Intensity 4 or “moderately strong” quake was felt in Vigan City, Claveria, Cagayan, and Tubo, Abra.
Lower intensities were also recorded in several areas:

+ Candon, Ilocos Sur
+ Narvacan, Ilocos Sur
Phivolcs warned residents of aftershocks and potential damage.
