Metro Manila, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) outside the weather disturbance monitoring zone has intensified into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Forecasters last spotted the storm southwest of southwestern Luzon.

The weather bureau said there’s a low chance for the tropical depression to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

However, the storm’s trough is triggering scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

On the other hand, moderate to heavy rains may persist over Calabarzon, parts of Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Dinagat islands due to the shear line or the convergence of cold and warm winds.

The northeast monsoon may also cause overcast skies and rains over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera region.
