Metro Manila, Philippines — China has harassed Filipino fisherfolk in Rozul Reef in the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Monday, Dec. 2.
The PCG said it obtained a video and photos of a China People’s Liberation Army helicopter harassing Filipino vessels on Nov. 28.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan directed the deployment of two Philippine vessels in the area for the safety of the fishermen.
“This deployment also aims to provide evidence of the active presence of Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea,” the PCG said in a statement.
“Despite the potential harassment from the Chinese Coast Guard, their confidence in fishing in the WPS (West Philippine Sea) has significantly increased due to the firm stance and commitment of the President not to surrender a square inch of our territory to any foreign power,” it added.
