LPA trough to bring rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

Rains (Canva)

Metro Manila, Philippines — Parts of Luzon and Visayas will have a rainy Sunday because of the trough of a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Oct. 20.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was 1,395 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It may enter the country’s monitoring space by afternoon or evening and may intensify into a tropical cyclone.

The LPA’s trough will cause overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon; and partly cloudy to cloudy skies over with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, the intertropical convergence zone – a belt of meeting trade winds and rising air – will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Palawan.

The rest of the country will have partly to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides are possible.

Gale warning has not been raised. But PAGASA warned those venturing out at sea in the coasts of Northern Luzon to take caution as waves are moderate to rough.
