Metro Manila, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons regained their winning form against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 83-73, on Sunday in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Francis Lopez led the way for the Fighting Maroons with 20 points and seven rebounds.

UP relied on its stingy defense to secure the win, holding the Growling Tigers to just 11 points in the final period.

Terrence Fortea knocked down crucial shots in the end. He finished with 16 points, three assists, and two rebounds for the Fighting Maroons.

JD Cagulangan also made his presence felt following a two-game absence. He added nine points and four rebounds for UP.

Mo Tounkara tallied a game-high 24 markers together with nine boards for UST.

The Fighting Maroons are tied with the De La Salle University Green Archers on top of the team standings at 7-1.

The Growling Tigers, meanwhile, remained at the fourth spot with a 4-4 win-loss slate.

UP will next face the National University Bulldogs on Oct. 20 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.

UST will square off against the Green Archers on Oct. 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
