Five killed in ‘Julian’ aftermath — NDRRMC

Metro Manila, Philippines — The death toll in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Julian has risen to five, disaster management officials said Friday, Oct. 4.

In its report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it confirmed one fatality each in Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley.

The NDRRMC said a 62-year-old male in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte drowned, while a 25-year-old male in Santa Ana, Cagayan was electrocuted.

Three more deaths were for validation in Ilocos region.

Eight were hurt while one person remains missing, the agency added.

The storm affected nearly 243,000 people, including around 145,000 in Ilocos region.

The Department of Agriculture reported around P481 million worth of agricultural damage, including more than P300 million in rice losses. Other commodities that suffered damage were corn and high-value crops.
